pretty simple - marie claire maison

i was making my monthly rounds at the magazine rack - when i got to this article in marie claire maison i flipped! the issue was all about the simple life - and these images are just that and oh so gorgeous!

i have no idea what these counter tops are made of - concrete maybe? but im into this over all stoney blue palette of this kitchen

and this bedroom is my favorite - its going top of the list for inspiration... so simple white, natural and a nice dark blue for accent - gorgeous!

mirror mirror - interior inspiration

a move is on the wind ...3 years in a tiny studio, although wonderful has become- what with the etsy shop and giving up my studio and a bf who works from home many day - quite small!

so as i think about a move i am of course dreaming about the kitchen...i keep coming across these kitchens with mirrors. what a fantastic idea!!

it will automatically bring depth and light to the space but i think its perfectly unexpected and thats just right by me!

Farmhouse divine

i saw this today over at citysage and just had to share... it speaks for itself really, the light, the white the bowls ... need i really say more ... and there is a whole book to swoon over. happy wed!

i just love this idea from acountryfarmhouse .... its so pretty and neat and organized! i would much rather open my kitchen draw and see this instead of the grey metal organizer i have from le target ... im going to be on the look out for some baskets that fit in my draw

i have this crazy affinity for wooden bowls - they are beautiful and utilitarian and are capable of being used from generation to generation. There are many different styles of wooden bowls but my favorite are the old turned wooden bowls - so called because they are carved down from a larger piece of wood as they spin or turn

wooden bowls have been a kitchen staple for centuries in many places all over the world - they have been used for chopping, resting dough, mixing and many other uses - all of this work leaves signs and that coupled with amazing grain, like the one above - give these old bowls amazing charm and character

though they can be used for prep work in the kitchen they also look gorgeous displayed or i love to use them to bring my favorite summer salad over to a friends bbq or on my table to serve light lemony pasta


above is my mom's collection of turned wooden bowls, she has been acquiring them for years, when she is not using them they sit beautifully stacked in the familyroom, making a lovely and simple display.

these lovely images are from the talented brit over at lobster and swan - not only are her images melt in your mouth good, but all the sweet little garlands are her own creation. you can find some in here in her shop.




i think these would look fantastic over the top of curtains just to add a little interest and detail - i know mine could use some! i love the above and below for adding detail and just a subtle bit of color. i also have a set of bathroom curtains that could use a little punch up!
also - how wonderful is the frame wall over her table so simple and yet so elegant - i think my heart just skipped a beat! i would imagine that using this for inspiration you could create something similar on a very shoestring budget.

welcome to the perfect kitchen of elisabeth dunker, blogger at fine little day, as well as artist, stylist and photographer, etc. etc. i am drooling over this space. i love how welcoming and calm the space feels. the pallet is stunning don't you think? and im a sucker for checkered floors - i never envisioned my wedding as a little kid only my kitchen and the floors have always been checkered. these however are so chic, look they are not pure black but more of a grey or slate tone - the danish modern chairs around the farmhouse table and the simple and elegant grouping of plates behind it all!!


notice i haven't mentioned the light fixture because what ever i say about it will not do it justice so lets me just say this.aaaaaaaaah!

in true american spirit

so i have recently been falling in love with this simple, clean but chunky and very classic looking china. ive been noticing it a lot lately here on the west coast and was surprised to find it out east as well. i have seen this great looking china in many different places, colors, sizes and shapes - and its all great! in short - there is something new in my kitchen.
behold -

it's "restaurant-ware" - its the classic work horse of the american diner (another love of mine) - and has probably served at least one meal to you, your parents and your grandparents. yup its been around for that long! tepco(here is some good history on this cali native), syracuse, buffalo, sterling, shenango and other companies less well known.
this china has been an amazing part of american history in so many ways its unbelivable - from disney to the navy. i like thinking where it may have been before my kitchen. another plus - its pretty darn indistructable and will be around for years to come. perfection.
