little lovelies : forrest clearing

lovely, arent they?
cast in porcelain from vintage doilies. Not only do i love the aesthetic appeal of these pieces, but thinking about the metaphorical layers behind the work has me captivated.

once handmade, they are like little monuments to the first maker reinvented using clay the second time around and then remade. Given a place of importance through their new material, but in the same breath a greater fragility.

An interesting balance is struck for me between the place of the traditional craft/its maker and its current form. somehow, its new form is both more concrete and speaks to the precarious state of this once widely known skill and its decline into something of obscurity, and all the while these pieces retain the most quite and delicate presence.

sumptuous summer tables

as seen in food & wine aug '09 photos by martin morrell

there is something about scrubbed down wood, large colorful napkins and little bits of sparkling glass that get me every time and... it is so simple and so beautiful but man it make me hungry! don't these just make you think about warm slightly humid nights with red wine and lovely fresh vegetables from the garden dotting the table. it also makes me think about good friends and family - because when your sharing a table with them you don't need much else.

this is my idea of heaven.

lovely linen

wouldn't you just love to slip into to this little linen sanctuary after a long day? just a little bit of sheen to this makes its neutral stripes all the more perfect!

i can just imagine sinking into a your favorite reading spot under one of these beautiful all wool blankets with a cup of tea! ummm.... makes me happy just thinking about it.

i love the texture of the weave and the fact that its 100% wool means it should last a life time - and so reasonably priced, would be a perfect gift for someone or for yourself!
so many beautiful things in this shop - other great household linens, hand crocheted baskets, scarves - you just have to take a look for yourself
